How to Find Your Ideal Leather Jacket

Choosing a leather jacket is a big deal. With so many styles, sizes and shapes to choose from it can take time to know which leather jacket will be right for you.

Not only do you need to find a leather jacket style and colour that you love and know you will wear, but it’s also essential to understand how a leather jacket should fit you.

How Should a Leather Jacket Fit

At Hidepark we know that a quality leather jacket can make an entire outfit, so we want to ensure you know all the facts. We have outlined the different styles of jackets and how they should fit here to allow you to make an informed decision during your next leather jacket purchase.

Leather Biker Jacket

Rock the classic leather jacket look with a Leather Biker Jacket. Usually including some stylish zip detailing, biker jackets were favoured by motorcyclists as part of their protective clothing.

Women’s leather biker jackets should fit snugly without being restrictive. When trying on your jacket remember to wear similar layers to what you intend to wear underneath, and check that your arm movement isn’t restricted.

Men’s biker jackets should also feel a little snug, hugging your armpits closely for an ideal fit. Your leather biker jacket shouldn’t be more than three inches loose anywhere, allowing space to layer without harming style and shape.

Bomber Jackets

Leather bomber jackets are traditionally waist-length with a gathered, ribbed waistband and sleeve cuffs. Zipped in the front, this jacket style is ideal for both men and women, with a slightly oversized and loose fit.

A leather bomber jacket should sit across your shoulders, with the shoulder seam sitting just over the edge of your shoulders for a fitted silhouette. Bomber jacket sleeves should not be too short, with the cuffs sitting directly against your wrists, with the fitted cuffs not moving much when you move your arms around. You should also ensure the waistband falls to just below belt level, with minimum stretch.

Whilst men’s bomber jackets should also fit across their chest, women’s bomber jackets should also leave a small amount of space around their chest for a well-fitted and comfortable bomber jacket look that easily zips closed when needed.

Leather Blazers

A slightly more formal leather jacket look, leather blazers are more structured than other leather jacket styles. Durable and comfortable, leather blazers are a stylish addition to any wardrobe with a slightly slouchy and less formal feel than other blazers.

Whilst slouchier than regular blazers, leather blazers should still fit snugly across the shoulders and chest, with space beneath for any layering. The open style of a leather blazer allows the wearer to choose between a looser fit or a more fitted style across the chest, ideal for women who struggle to find their perfect size.

Men’s leather blazers should be snug across the shoulders and chest, flowing slightly over your waist to allow for movement throughout the day. For women’s leather blazers, the best way to ensure the fit is correct is to try on a leather blazer and fasten the button close. The blazer should feel comfortable and unrestricted, whilst the button closes seamlessly with no pulling that could damage the jacket.
